First Define What the Fixture Must Do
A fixture plate may locate, clamp, inspect, transfer or support equipment changeover. Each task prioritizes stiffness, weight, flatness, holes and durability differently, so the name fixture plate cannot decide the grade.
Balance Stiffness, Weight and Dimensional Stability
Plate size, thickness, support, clamping force and repeated use affect distortion risk. Weight affects manual handling or moving systems, while dimensional stability affects repeat location. Material and structural design need joint review.
Machining Features Change the Material Decision
Large material removal, deep pockets, thin walls, dense holes, threads and datum faces create different constraints. Mark critical planes, locating holes, threads, clamping areas and protected surfaces, and state whether material preparation and CNC are required together.
6061 and 7075 Are Candidate Directions, Not Automatic Answers
General fixture components can first evaluate 6061 for balanced machining and structure. When strength, hardness direction or load becomes more important, 7075 may enter the shortlist. Both require confirmation against size, temper, finish, environment, cost and actual loading.
Do Not Omit Surface, Environment and Maintenance
Repeated clamping can cause wear or marks, while moisture, contamination and cleaning methods affect service. If finishing is needed, specify treatment areas, color, critical faces and maintenance expectations.
